Leopard Portrait Mini Tutorial

Welcome to my mini-tutorial, where I will teach you how to paint a realistic leopard portrait in under 5 hours. I will share the thinking behind each choice of color and layer and the shortcuts I've figured out along the way.

Fur can be a time-consuming element of a painting. In this tutorial, I share my tips and techniques as to how you can shortcut the process in order to create a surface-level amount of detail. I show you how to glaze efficiently, and what steps you can skip in order to move forward in your layering process. This particular leopard was chosen because of the way the bend in the neck pushes the fur out in wrinkles, giving us a more interesting surface to try and recreate. There is also a beautiful feel of lighting that we can work with to enhance the depth in the portrait.

If you have done any of my other tutorials, this process will make sense immediately; however, if you are new here, don’t worry; it is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

What you'll get:

  • The full process from start to finish broken down into step-by-step process
  • Ebook with the notes and summary photos of the tutorial for you to download
  • New insights into how I work with fur in an efficient and effective way

This way of working is perfect for artists who want to create the effect of realism without the painstaking hours it requires.
